Holy Cross Church in Ovid was established in 1851, making it one of the oldest parishes in the Finger Lakes region. The current church building was constructed in 1896. Father Thomas P. Stafford served for 37 years from 1917 to 1954—one of the longest pastorates in diocesan history. The parish has been staffed by the Capuchin Franciscans since 1989. Today, Holy Cross is part of Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish.
