In 1948, Immaculate Heart of Mary was established at the corner of Thornell and Rt. 96 as a mission chapel under St. Louis church in Pittsford. Msgr. Louis Edelman, then Pastor of St. Louis, celebrated the inaugural Mass at the chapel in 1948. The modest building accommodated only 50 worshippers. St. Louis continued administering the chapel until summer 1962, when responsibility transferred to the newly formed St. John of Rochester parish.

St. John of Rochester held its first Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary on August 5th, 1962. The new parish used this chapel as its primary worship location until a combined church and school building opened on the current St. John of Rochester property in September 1963.

After St. John of Rochester departed, Masses continued at the chapel for approximately two more years before ending on February 1st, 1965. Immaculate Heart of Mary sat vacant for many years until its March 1981 sale to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Steamer. The chapel building remains standing and currently houses an acupuncture practice.
