Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Perkinsville has roots dating back to 1836, making it one of the oldest Catholic communities in the diocese. The parish has had several names over the years before becoming Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1884. The Redemptorist Fathers served the parish in its early years. Father Charles P. Riefer served for 25 years from 1929 to 1954. The current church building was constructed in 1883. Today, Sacred Heart is part of the Holy Family Catholic Community cluster.
