St. James the Apostle Church in Trumansburg was established as a mission in 1856 and became a parish in 1872. Father Michael T. Madden served for 28 years from 1881 to 1909. Father Robert J. Kanka served for 14 years from 1980 until his retirement in 1994. The present church building was constructed in 1950. The parish has been staffed by the Capuchin Franciscans since 1994. Today, St. James is part of Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish.
