St. John the Evangelist Church in Newark Valley was established as a mission in 1881 and became a parish in 1909. The church building was dedicated on January 8, 1881. The parish alternated between mission and parish status multiple times between 1909 and 1939. Father William Moorby served for 21 years from 1993 to 2014. Today, St. John is part of Blessed Trinity Parish.
