St. John the Evangelist Church in Spencerport was established in 1851 to serve Catholics along the Erie Canal corridor. The current church building was constructed in 1915. Father Francis E. Hester served for 18 years from 1953 until his death in 1971. St. John remains an independent parish serving the Spencerport community.
