St. Joseph Church in Cayuga was established as a mission in 1853 and became a parish in 1972. The church building was constructed in 1870. The future Bishop Thomas Hendrick served here for 14 years from 1877 to 1891 before his appointment as bishop. Father John B. Crowley served for 29 years from 1925 to 1954. The parish has since closed.
