St. Joseph Church in Wayland was established in 1881 to serve the German Catholic farming community in Steuben County. The church building was constructed in January 1881. Monsignor Adelbert J. Schneider served for 26 years from 1941 until his death in 1967. Today, St. Joseph is part of the Holy Family Catholic Community cluster.
