St. Mark
ActiveGreece, Monroe County
St. Mark Church was established in 1964 to serve the rapidly growing Catholic population in Greece, as Rochester's northwestern suburbs expanded during the post-World War II boom. The parish was one of several new churches created to meet the needs of families moving to the new subdivisions being built throughout Greece.
Father Joseph D. Donovan was appointed as the founding pastor in June 1964 and would serve for over two decades until his retirement in 1985. Under his leadership, the parish grew from a small startup congregation into an established community. Father Thomas M. Erdle continued this tradition of long service, leading St. Mark for another 20 years from 1985 to 2005.
The present church building was constructed in 1993, replacing the original structure as the parish matured and the congregation's needs evolved. Father Louis Sirianni served from 2005 to 2019.
Today, St. Mark continues as an active independent parish, currently led by Deacon Frank A. Pettrone as administrator. The parish serves the Catholic community in northern Greece, carrying forward 60 years of ministry in this thriving suburb.
