St. Mary Southside Church in Elmira was established in February 1872. The church building was constructed in 1875. Father Michael O'Dwyer served for 28 years from 1880 to 1908, followed by Father Jeremiah J. Moriarity, who served for 35 years from 1908 to 1943—one of the longest pastorates in the diocese. Today, St. Mary Southside is part of Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish.
