St. Matthew
ActiveLivonia, Livingston County
St. Matthew Church in Livonia is one of the newest parishes in the Diocese of Rochester, established in 2004. Unlike most churches in the diocese—which trace their origins to the 19th or early 20th century—St. Matthew was created in the modern era to better serve Catholics in rural Livingston County.
The parish and its church building were both established on March 1, 2004, with Father John Hayes appointed as the founding pastor. Father Hayes served for nearly a decade until 2013, establishing the parish's identity and building a strong faith community.
Father Hoan Dinh served from 2013 to 2019, first as administrator and then as pastor. Father William F. Laird currently leads the parish.
St. Matthew is part of the St. Mary/St. Matthew cluster, sharing pastoral resources with St. Mary Church in nearby Geneseo. This collaborative model allows both parishes to maintain their individual identities while ensuring sustainable ministry across Livingston County. The parish serves Catholics in Livonia and the surrounding rural communities of the Genesee Valley.
