St. Patrick Church in Cato was established on March 5, 1874, to serve the Catholic community in this Cayuga County village. The church building was constructed in 1875. Father Henry King became the first resident pastor in 1877.

Father William B. Leone served for 12 years from 1990 to 2002. Father William Darling served for nine years from 2011 to 2020. Today, St. Patrick is part of Our Lady of the Snow Parish.
