St. Patrick
ClosedMcLean, Tompkins County
In 1851, St. Patrick's church in McLean was constructed for $1,000 and operated as a mission of Immaculate Conception in Ithaca, coming under St. Anthony in Groton beginning in 1873. Michael O'Byrne donated the land and assisted with laying the foundation. The congregation remained small throughout its history, peaking at approximately 200 parishioners. Renovations in 1915 lowered the ceiling and added stained glass windows. During Easter season 1950, the church floor collapsed but was promptly repaired with help from the Cortland Knights of Columbus. The decision was eventually made that this small mission with its deteriorating building was no longer viable. In 1962, St. Patrick's was merged into Holy Cross in Dryden. The former church building survives today as a private residence.
