Church of the Resurrection

Active

Perinton (Bushnell's Basin, Fairport), Monroe County

Bp. Hogan founded Church of the Resurrection in March 1973 to serve eastern Perinton, responding to substantial growth at Church of the Assumption. Fr. Robert Kreckel transferred from Immaculate Conception in the Corn Hill area to become the parish's founding Pastor. Meetings gathered 205 individuals who became the charter members. Masses were soon celebrated in a building next to Martha Brown Junior High School on Sundays and in the Hamilton Road rectory basement on weekdays. Construction of the church concluded with Masses relocating there on October 9, 1976. Though always modest in size, the parish grew to 579 families by the late 1990s.

In early 2014, the announcement came that Resurrection would share pastoral leadership with neighboring Church of the Assumption in Fairport. Fr. Edward Palumbos received appointment as Pastor of both parishes, while Fr. George Heyman—who had been assisting priest under Sr. Joan Cawley—continued serving at Resurrection. Sr. Joan Cawley transitioned to Pastoral Associate.
